What is perfection? Design und function: For me personally, a perfect motorcycle has an easily inclined line, suitable proportions and a slim tailsection that takes up and completed the form of frameworks and tank . Noble materials, a concentration of the necessary parts as near as possible in the center of the bike and and in the deepest position as possible. Like a robbery cat in the jump, strong, agile, and nevertheless at the same time aggressive and elegant.
Reduction to substantial. 170kg, a lower emphasis and an optimal chassis geometry produces outstanding driving dynamics! The prehistory A Ducati 996SPS accompanied me frequently into the Eifel and to various race trainings. After numerous of crashes I often thought about converting this motorcycle into a Naked Bike. For any reason such a project was never carried out. Perhaps, because a Ducati should remain a Ducati.
In March 2003 I saw this perfectly manufactured, TIG-WELDED, highly polished aluminum framework. It tubes are of diameter 40 mm, partial with oval cross sections.
The screwed on subframe offered all possibilities of variations. A work of art, actually too pretty for driving. In a living room, on a blue velvet cover it would be also suitable. In my mind I combined new outer skin parts with the framework. One week later that thing hung in my garage.
Stage two The heavy original bandit exhaust system was changed against an MAB exemplar. Full titanium with underseat exhaust. No unusual solution but much better than the original stuff.
Stage tree The making of monocoque tailsection. The Tailsection is concepted as monocoque. That means, that no Subframe is necessary.
Winter 2004/05 was passing by and the tailsection was finished. Also I constructed new footpegs. The Underseat exhaust exchanged into an under-engine version. The new tank was built in summer 04. The frontfairing was created in November 05.
The garage backyard is dirty. And here the db-Martek was born. Like that and not differently! I saw this picture 3 years ago; in front of my mental eye........... And this is not the end of the story. My next project is a fuel injection system for the bandit 1200 engine......... |
